Utility Rate Hikes Face Chipley Council Thursday Night
Give break to elder residents.
Monday February 8th, 2010
One item on the agenda of the Chipley City Council on Thursday, Feb. 11th will be a vote to amend Ordinance #895 - Utilities. Council members have said the increase is necessary, but are making some concessions for the older members of the community.
As proposed the amended ordinance reads ... "Any utility customer that receives the senior citizen exemption with the Property Appraisers Office will receive a fifty percent (50%) discount on any utility base rate increases."
Connection fee costs will also increase, as will impact fees for residential, commercial and industrial construction .
And, all rates will be adjusted in October of each year based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Ordinance #895 is only one of four ordinances on the agenda for Thursday night. The others include:
* Final reading of #896 - Gas Rates
* First reading of #897 - Zoning
* First reading of #898 - Administration
Other agenda items for Thursday night include:
* Discussion on allowing the 'Relay For Life' to use the soccer field off Rustin Street at Pals Park.
Connie Wheeler and Ed Chadwell met with the council at their Feb. 4th workshop to explain the need for the location change for the event and council members said they would consider the matter at their Feb. 11th meeting.
Dealing with other items at the workshop,
