Two council members take their oaths of office at Chipley Council meeting ………….


Councilmembers Tracy Andrews and John Sasser were sworn in by Judge Tim Register.















Noah Owens, Boy Scout Troop 39 in Chipley,  was honored at Monday night’s meeting of the Chipley City Council.  Chipley Councilman Brett Butler was pleased to have the opportunity to present Owens with a plaque recognizing the young Scouts achievements this past summer at a National Camp.

At that time Owens was recognized for having received the following awards – Outdoor Activity Award, Special Ops Award/Patch, 100th Golden Trading Card, Special Edition Black Ops Patch, Navy Honor Patch, National Guard Award, Silver Bay Award, Conservation Challenge Award, Resource Stewardship Patch, Special Ops Set.

He also received the Honor Camper Award and was elected Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.


Councilman Butler had served as Owens’ Scoutmaster for several years.


Council members also dealt with the following agenda items at Monday night’s meeting:

  •  Approved Ordinance No. 945 –  Natural Gas Rates
  •  Tabled action on Ordinance No. 946 – Code Enforcement
  •  Tabled discussion/action on an ordinance requested by Students Working Against Tobacco until their November meeting
  •   Approved a Special Event Application for Relay for Life which is to be held April 27, 2018, at Pals Park from 6 p.m. until midnight
  •   Approved a Special Event Application for the Chipley Christmas Festival 
  •   Approved establishing a Citizens Advisory Committee to work with the downtown flag display
