Bonifay, Florida Middle School Beats Vernon Middle School in Girls Basketball on Monday, October 9, 2017

One might argue that basketball is not typically considered a contact sport, but make no mistake that physicality, aggression and athleticism are key ingredients of a winning basketball team.

The Vernon, Florida Middle School Lady Yellow Jackets ‘A’ Team were physically dominated by the Bonifay, Florida Middle School Lady Blue Devils in Girls Basketball on the Bonifay campus on Monday, October 9, 2017, as seen in these photos of the ‘A’ Team game, by Real Florida Media, a subsidiary of The Goulding Agency in Chipley, Florida.

Several players stand out on the Vernon squad and there is definitely an opportunity for these young ladies to successfully play high school ball, but a lack in consistency of coaching seems to have plagued the Vernon long game, with coaches cycling through the Middle School Basketball program over the past several years.

Aggression and a willingness to be physical on the court can be taught, but, all else being equal, when faced with a stronger, more physical opponent, it’s an uphill battle to hold your own on the court, especially in the paint.

Bonifay employed a full-court press more often than not against Vernon, and although both teams seemed to enjoy good conditioning, fatigue was definitely a factor in the later minutes of the game.
