Vernon, Florida High School Yellow Jackets Look For Revenge Against Chipley High School Tigers Under ‘Friday Night Lights’

In a high scoring game that could have gone either way, the Chipley, Florida High School football squad edged out Vernon High School with a final core of 61-55 on Friday, September 23, 2016 in Philip Rountree Stadium in Downtown Chipley.

On this Friday, September 15, 2017, Vernon will be looking for revenge on the gridiron, and, with a new coach, a new attitude and a renewed sense of purpose, Vernon will have the home field advantage as the two juggernauts clash in a war of wills.

Chipley’s Head Coach Blake Wilson and his squad have a great start to their 2017 football season, with a perfect record and a few close calls that the boys managed to grit out for victory.

Vernon’s Head Coach Gerald Tranquille has brought a renewed sense of purpose and a work ethic to the Yellow Jackets which has thus far also allowed them a good start to this season.

The 2016 game was punctuated by a series of penalties, with flags thrown for late hits, and the adrenaline remained high for the entire game, as Chipley sought vindication from an even earlier loss in 2015 to Vernon, the first loss to Vernon in the previous five years.

Both teams have great conditioning and have played tough this year, and both sides show the high level of training and extended cardio necessary to play in the Northwest Florida heat.

The game on Friday is slated to enjoy cooler temperatures following Hurricane Irma last week, and temperatures in the 60’s are expected, which should help to energize both teams.

As usual, the event on Friday will be kicked off by the traditional presenting of the colors, national anthem and all the pageantry expected at the ‘Friday Night Lights’ of small-town America high school football.
