Wausau Town Council handles short agenda …….

Council members  dealt with the following issues during last week’s meeting:

 

  •  Agreed to advertise for bids to replace the doors at the Possum Palace.
  •  Were informed new carpet would be installed in the town hall, library and office area prior to the council’s  September meeting.   The council voted in July to have JD Owens, Inc. replace the existing carpeting at a  cost of $5,868.
  •   Were informed that the bank loan on the Splash Pad Park had closed and the splash pad is on order.
  •   Were informed work at George M. Rogers Park is nearing closeout.
  •   Were informed that the Possum Palace Park walking trail survey and design are complete.
  •   Set a Special meeting and budget workshop for Aug. 22 at 5 p.m.
  •   Were informed that Washington County had agreed to take over code enforcement for the Town.
  •   Agreed to set Halloween activities in Wausau for Oct. 28th from 5 – 7 p.m. at the request of the Wausau Volunteer Fire Department which will be hosting a Haunted         House and Fish Fry that evening.
  •   Agreed to advertise for bids for the Splash Pad Construction and Walking Trail construction.

Council members to advertise immediately.

Jeff Goodman,  current attorney for the Town of Wausau, will be invested as Circuit Judge in early September and put the town on notice last week that he will not be available after August as he is closing his practice.

 

Goodman praised the council for their commitment to their community and their desire to serve the people of the town.

 

Taking action on other agenda items at last week’s meeting:

 

  •  Announced that Washington County will be taking over code enforcement in Wausau.
  •  New carpet will be installed in the Town Hall prior to the Council’s September meeting.  The Council voted in July to have JD Owens, Inc. put down carpet tiles in the  town hall, library and office area for a total cost of $5,868.
  •  Announced a Budget Workshop and Special Meeting for Aug. 22nd beginning at 5 p.m.
  •  Announced that the loan on the Splash Pad Park had closed and the splash pad has been ordered.
  •  Work at George Rogers Park is nearing closeout.
  •  Work on the walking trail survey and design are complete for the Possum Palace Park.
  •  Approved a request from the Wausau Volunteer Fire Department that Halloween is set on Oct. 28th from5 – 7 p.m. in Wausau as their haunted house and fish fry will be  held that day.
  •  Approved advertising Ordinance No. 17-002 repealing and replacing Ordinance 08-004 (Fire Department Ordinance);.  The replacement ordinance will define the authority of the Fire Department; provide for authority to establish and regulate the Fire Department and its volunteers, and provide an effective date.
