2017 Vernon, Florida Miss Firecracker Pageant A Huge Success on Saturday, June 17

The Vernon, Florida Community Center was filled to capacity on Saturday, June 17, 2017 as the annual ‘Miss Firecracker’ pageant kicked off the summer pageant season.

A fundraiser sponsored by the City of Vernon, all proceeds from this prestigious event go toward the cost of the free fireworks display held each year on July 4 at the Vernon Sportsplex.

Washington County Commissioner Tray Hawkins spoke at the event, praising Pageant Director Laura Brewer and thanking all community sponsors for their participation.

Hawkins also took the opportunity to invite the community for a farewell celebration, immediately following the pageant, to Bill and Peggy Dobbins at Holmes Creek Pizza and Pasta in downtown Vernon.

Saturday was the last day of ownership of the restaurant for Bill and Peggy, who have sold the landmark restaurant, with new owners taking possession next week.

Categories on Saturday included Baby Miss, Toddler Miss, Tiny Miss, Future Little Miss, Little Miss, Pre-Teen Miss, Teen Miss, Junior Miss, Miss Firecracker, Ms. Firecracker and Little Miss Independence.

Winners in each category received a round rhinestone crown, an embroidered banner and a trophy, with a trophy presented to Miss Photogenic winner in each category.   There were also first and second place Runner-Up trophies in each category and every child under the age of 12 received a crown.

Pageant Director Laura Brewer was pleased with the turnout, and the crowd went away happy, as seen in these photos from the 2016 event by Real Florida Media, a subsidiary of The Goulding Agency in Chipley, Florida.
