GCSC’s Educator Preparation Institute Recognized as Top Performing Program in Florida …………

Panama City, FL – Another Gulf Coast State College program has been recognized as a top performer in the state of Florida. The 2017 Annual Program Performance Report (APPR) for state-approved teacher preparation programs has been released by the Florida Department of Education, and GCSC’s Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) received the highest scores out of 21 programs, tying with three other schools. The ranking is determined by six legislatively-mandated performance metrics including: placement and employment rates, retention rates, student performance of statewide assessments, student performance by subgroups, teacher evaluation results and critical teacher shortage production.

“Our EPI team strives to consistently deliver high-quality coursework that prepares our candidates to become successful teachers on their first day in the classroom,” said Patricia Schenck, Educator Preparation Academic Program Coordinator. “The APPR report indicates that our graduates are employed and retained in teaching positions and also shows they receive high appraisal scores. We’re pleased to share their accomplishments!”

The EPI program is designed for individuals with a four-year college degree in any area interested in earning a K-12 teaching certification in the state and prepares students to take the Florida Teacher Certification Exams.

“Every one of our EPI faculty and staff consistently dedicate their time and energy to helping their students,” said Wes Keene, Social Sciences Division Chair. “They routinely go the extra mile and want each of their students to succeed not just in the program, but also in their lives and careers.”
