Chipley High School’s cheerleading program was the recipient of financial support from the Kiwanis Club this week and Kiwanian Dell Corbin was proud to present representatives of the group with a check to purchase a new mascot costume to be used by the cheerleaders.
Martha Compton is the sponsor/director of the cheerleader program at CHS and told her audience that she thoroughly enjoys the duties handed over to her when she asked to take over the program.
Compton, who was cheerleader through high school at CHS and on through college, said she actually asked to take over the program following a “floor fight” by two members of the group last year. Compton said she felt compelled to step up and do the job to bring some pride back into the program. Noting that the cheerleading program works to instill responsibility and character in the young people who participate, Compton said those characteristics are ones that will make a lasting impact in the lives of all involved.
