You can never get enough Christmas, or Santa Claus, and Saturday, December 12 was a big day in Washington County, Florida, as Santa officially kicked off the holiday season with appearances in Wausau and Vernon.
Starting the day in Wausau, Santa greeted well-wishers at the annual Wausau Christmas Parade, then traveled a few miles west to Vernon, just in time for the annual Vernon Christmas Festival and Parade.
Free photos with Santa were offered at both events, with standing-room only crowds as Santa offered holiday greetings and put large smiles on the faces of children of all ages.
The events were attended by staff photographers from Real Florida Magazine, who chronicled the events in photos and video clips.
Santa expressed excitement about the quickly approaching holiday, and was obviously happy and right at home amidst the crowds of adoring children.
‘We had a great time again this year,’ quipped Santa, ‘and we look forward to coming back on Christmas Eve’.
The Vernon High School Marching Band participated in both events, lending a festive and musical touch to the parades, and executing great performances.
The Wausau and Vernon events have grown over the past ten years, enjoying large crowds and, with a daytime, well-lighted and safe environment, good photo opportunities.
