Council also declares Dec. 24th Clark Rogers Day in Wausau.
Wausau Councilman and member of the Wausau Garden Club Roger Hagan presented the December ‘Yard of the Month’ certificate to the Laminacks at the Dec. 10th meeting of the Wausau Town Council. He congratulated the family on receiving the award and for the change of seasons decorations that have adorned the yard in recent weeks.
Wishing the community in general a Very Merry Christmas, council members reminded every one that the parade is set for 10 a.m. Saturday morning in Wausau and the Fire Department Holiday Banquet on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Council members also took the opportunity to present a proclamation declaring Dec. 24, 2016 as Clark Rogers Day in the town of Wausau. Acknowledging a lifetime of achievement obtained by Rogers, Councilman Roger Hagan presented the framed proclamation to Rogers’ sons Dan and Will. They also presented a smiliar proclamation from the Washington County Board of County Commissioners.
The proclamation declares:
WHEREAS, the Town of Wausau looks for occasions to acknowledge life achievement of its citizens of those whose roots began in Wausau, and;
WHEREAS, Clark Rogers birthday predates the incorporation of the Town of Wausau by almost 50 years, and;
WHEREAS, Clark Rogers is a life-long resident of Washington County whose public services is well documented, and;
WHEREAS, Clark Rogers was instrumental in establishing the Wausau Memorial Gardens, served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Washington County Hospital, and served the Washington County School Board as a School Bus Driver and Supervisor of the Vernon Bus Compound, and;
WHEREAS, Clark Rogers has a storied history as an outdoors sportsman and supporter of school and youth activities, especially sporting activities, and;
WHEREAS, Clark Rogers will celebrate his 100th birthday December 24, 2016, and;
WHEREAS, it has jokingly been said, “We don’t know how old Clark is, but he was born one day before Jesus”:
THEREFORE in recognition of his long life and exemplary life of public service the Town Council of Wausau proclaims December 24th, 2015 as CLARK ROGERS DAY in Wausau, Florida and encourages everyone to join in thanks and congratulations to Mr. Rogers.
The Wausau Council also approved a proclamation in honor of retiring Wausau Postmistress Laurell Harvey. The proclamation declares Dec. 31st at Laurell Harvery Day in Wausau. Harvey will be retiring Dec. 31, 2015 and a reception is being hosted in her honor on Jan. 2, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wausau Assembly of God Church. Harvey was described as “going above and beyond the call of duty to assist the patrons of the Wausau Post Office”.
Dealing with other agenda items, the council took the following actions:
- Approved payment of town bills.
- Accepted water reports into record.
- Approved a $200 Christmas bonus for employees.
- Approved the purchase of two week eaters.
- Were informed there are probably some unregistered dogs in Wausau, the problem is getting smaller.
