Washington County Planning Commission approves ‘Land Use Amendment’ for Harrells ……

by Kathy Foster

003Dothan residents Mr. & Mrs. Ronnie Harrell met with the Washington County Planning Commission June 2nd and received “thumbs up”  for a Small Scale Future Land Use Map Amendment at 1447 Main Street (Hwy 77) in Chipley.  The approval allows a change from Low-Medium Density Residential to General Commercial for the  two and one-half acres which Harrell said will be used for an office.

The approval did bring up discussion of existing structures being used for commercial purposes when they aren’t built to commercial standards.  Planning Commission Vice Chair David Morris brought up the discussion.  He said he wanted to make it clear the commission was only changing the land use, not any rules pertaining to structures on the land in question.

The Planning Commission also approved a variance request from Mary and Davy Odom to allow placement of a mobile home on their property 1092 Rock Circle.

And, commission members approved a Comprehensive Plan Review, Section D and Section E, of the Future Land Use Element.
