CHS Girls Basketball Team recognized at School Board meeting …..

Washington County School Board members started their meeting March 10th recognizing  the Chipley High School Girls Basketball Team as the Runners-up in recent competition.  The team, shown below in part,  received a round of applause from the board and crowd at the meeting.

Vernon High School Teacher Kevin Russell was also at the meeting with some of the students who recently participated and ranked in the Language & Literacy Festival at Chipola.

VHS students participating  in the competition were  …  Oral Interpretation:  Avanti Davis and Nicole Middlemass;  President’s Reading:  Genny Kunkel;  Eassay:  Tony Dodd and Micheala Poppell;  Spanish:  Micheala Poppell and Monica Howart;  Grammar:  Kyle Middlemass;  Literature:  Rachael Spooner and Lyndsae Stray;  and Humanities:  Jerryd Perry and Genny Kunkel.

 

Winners included   …  Honorable Mention, Genny Kunkel for Humanities;  First Place;  Jerryd Perry for Humanities; and Second Place:  Rachael Spooner for Literature.

Shown above Woodrow Foster updated the School Board concerning the construction program ongoing at Vernon Elementary School.  Telling the board that everything was on track, Foster said they expected the project to be completed in time for students to move in at the beginning of the 2014-15 school year.  The construction team is with Perry-McCall Construction Group.

Dealing with other agenda items, the School Board took the following actions:

* Approved the following list of substitute teachers:  Stephanie Gipson Joseph Green, Mary Green, David Hausner, Allison Hooks and Jaclyn Morris.

*  Approved the School Calendar for 2014-15.

*  Approved an out-of-state travel for KMS students to Carmike 6 Theatre in Dothan, Alabama for AR Reward trip on March 18th for grades 1-4.

*  Approved leaves of absence for Angela Robarge and Jacqueline Brown.

*  Approved employment of Chris Williams, teacher, at Vernon Middle School (pending pre-employment screening).

*  Approved a lengthy list of obsolete, stolen, behyond repair or items that have been used for parts to be disposed of.

*  Approved an IT Security Incident Response Plan.

*  Approved a contract with Synovia Solutions for bus GPS units, saving $155.40 per month for the school district.

*  Received the   School Enrollment Report shown below:
